What is Engagement & Wellness - they sound like buzz words to me!?

Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices towards a healthy and fulfilling life. It is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. A good or satisfactory condition of existence; a state characterized by health, happiness, and prosperity.

“Wellness is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” – The World Health Organization.

Engagement is the act of reaching out to citizens and then incorporating their perspectives and feedback into the process, project, etc. A robust community engagement program ensures interaction both with the City, and within the stakeholders of the City.

Where do engagement and wellness intersect with city priorities???

City planning in the United States was originally founded to combat the ills of the urban and industrial environments at the end of the 19th Century. Public Health was cited as a rationale for keeping cities organized.

Plan4Health connects communities across the country, funding work at the intersection of planning and public health and supports creative partnerships to build sustainable, cross-sector coalitions.

We encourage you to stay engaged throughout the Engagement & Wellness topical outreach and provide your input in various ways, starting with the visual preference surveys located on this page and on Nextdoor, by sharing examples of how the City can foster community engagement, by sharing personal stories about community wellness, or by completing the Engagement & Wellness survey.
